2016 seems to be the year of the glow. “Strobing” is the trend du jour and every cosmetic brand out there is jumping on the bandwagon, releasing highlighters and radiance creams. Whether it be a subtle sheen on the skin or an extreme metallic highlight this trend is everywhere, and I for one love it.
This look is perfect for summer, it’s pretty and fresh, and best of all if it’s a little hot outside any moisture on your face is only going to add to the look, so it’s kind of sweat proof too!
I’ve discovered a really great way to achieve the “strobing” look without breaking the bank too. If like me you’re a makeup junkie you will probably already have what you need in your collection, if not you can purchase the items on a budget.
What you will need:
A setting spray of some description, if you have a Mac fix+ lying around that you never reach for, or even an empty bottle that you can refill with plain water that will be fine. I had a rose water spray that I rarely used so that’s what I went for. But any setting spray will do, you just need a lid that you can unscrew.
Pigments. If you have any pigments that you just had to have from one of the limited edition Mac collections that come out every month, now is the time to put them to good use. Otherwise you can get some great dupes from Barry M at a fraction of the cost. Even better still, if you have a highlighter that has smashed and you can use it any more, break it up and use that.
Add a few teaspoons of your pigments to the facial spray, shake it up and voila – the perfect setting spray to give you that strobing glow. Spray a few times over the entire face once you’ve completed the rest of your makeup and you’re good to go. If you really want your highlight to pop you can use the spray and then while the cheeks are still a little damp go over with a pressed highlighter. The highlighter will appear more pigmented that it would on dry skin and you’re glow will be visible from space.
