September has been a chaotic month for me, mainly because I’ve moved into a new apartment and things still aren’t 100% organised. For one we still don’t have internet so I’m having to be super organised and get all my blog posts typed up in advance and uploaded in my local costa coffee. Not ideal. One thing I have been loving though is that it is finally acceptable to embrace the autumn trends. I love the earthy tones and warm colours that autumn brings. So without any more waffle here are my September favourites:
Kat Von D Lock It Foundation
If you read my review post on the foundation you’ll know that I wasn’t thrilled with this when I first tried it. In fact I was quite disappointed. However the purse strings have had to remain quite tight again this month so a new foundation really wasn’t within budget. Because of this I had to continue to use the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation regardless of whether or not I liked it. Luckily through a month (maybe more than) of trial and error I have finally found a way to make it work for me – and you know what? I love it! It just goes to show, never write off a product straight away. What I’ve been doing is soaking a beauty blender in luke warm water and using that to apply it. And when I say soak I mean really drench it. This helps it go onto the skin a lot lighter and avoid that cakey pore filled look that I was achieving before. Annoyingly this method is quite time consuming, much more so that using a brush and it means you have to clean the beauty blender everyday. It is worth it though because this foundation will last ALL day once it is on and gives a beautiful, full coverage, flawless finish.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Dark Neutral
As you can see from the picture this is completely the wrong colour for me. That is because I’m not using it to conceal but as a bronzer. I apply some of the product to the back of my hand and then using the beauty blender that I have used for my foundation I pounce the product over my face in the areas I wish to bronze. I’ve enjoyed using this to bronze because it looks very natural and part of the skin. The foundation I’ve been using is very full coverage so it can make the face look very flat, a cream bronzer will help to add some dimension back into the face.
MAC Pressed Amber Mineralize Blush
Another example of me using a product for something other than what it is intended for. I have had this blush for such a long time and although it looks like my kind of rosey brown colour in the pan it does not translate onto the skin. It just looks like muddy nothingness on the cheeks. As I was having a brutal clear out I came across it again and decided to try it as a bronzer rather than a blush ina last ditch attempt tp make it work. And believe it or not it worked! I love this as a bronzer, its subtle enough for my pale skin and the ever so slighty pink undertones work perfectly with my pastey English skin tone. I believe that this was a limited edition product (so annoying) but I thought I would include it in case any of you have a blush of a similar shade and want to try it as a bronzer. You might just love it!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Ashton
I love a liquid lipstick and Anastasia’s are by far the best in my humble opinion. I love them all but this colour is just perfect this time of year. Still very neutral but it has a terracotta feel to it. It nods to the brown lip trend while still being wearable. The beauty of this colour is that it will suit all skin tones, it will be more of a statement lip on paler girls and the most beautiful nude on deeper skin tones.
MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters Eyeshadow
Finally, an oldie but goodie. This eyeshadow has always been one of my favourites. It looks great incorporated into a more dramatic smokey eye in the inner corner as well as on its own. This month I’ve really been enjoying wearing a very basic eye. Usually I’m all about the eye makeup but recently I quick wash of all that glitters over the lid is all I need.
As always thanks for reading everyone! I’d love to know your September favourites or if you have been using any products for something other than what it was intended. Have a great October!
