As many of you will know from Instagram I’ve had a drastic hair change this week. I now have red hair!! If any of you can remember this post from a few months a ago you’ll know I’ve been wanting to change up my hair for a while now. I think most people will agree that 2016 has been a pretty crappy year, so this hair change for me is like “break up hair”. You know when you go through a bad break up and you suddenly feel the urge to change your hair dramatically? Well I’m still happily loved up in my relationship, but I’m ready to break up with 2016 and move on from this year!!
How I Achieved my Red Hair
My roots were getting long and I desperately needed to do something with my hair. To get it to the kind of blonde I like would have involved an expensive salon visit so I decided why not try red hair, as I’ve always wanted to. I was VERY nervous undertake such a dramatic colour change on my own but I thought I’d try it, promising myself I’d get it fixed professionally if all went belly up. Luckily I’m really pleased with how it turned out. I definitely think I suit blonde more but for now I’m loving the change.
I used L’Oréal prodigy in Ruby Red for the colour.
I was worried the colour might be a little too orange at first so I did a stand test before applying to my entire head.
Once I was happy with the strand test I took the plunge and applied the whole thing. I followed the instructions carefully, the only thing I did differently was leave it on for a little longer than suggested. I did around 45 minutes rather than 20, again because I wanted it to ensure it wasn’t orange but a deep red.
And that was it! Super simple and easy. If you’re thinking of going from blonde to red I’d say go for it! It’s a lot easier that going the other way and totally achievable at home.
