As the end of the year is rapidly approaching everyone is starting to reflect on the past twelve months. It certainly hasn’t been my favourite year but as always it hasn’t been all bad. I always think it’s nice to try and remember all of the good things that have happened in the year and end on a positive note. So with that in mind I have decided to do a post on my favourite beauty trends of 2016. I feel as though we’ve had some great ones this year!
The Glitter Lip
You know a few posts ago when I said I’d stop mentioning glitter lips? I lied. I’m mentioning them again! This may very well be my favourite trend of the whole of 2016. It’s so perfect for this time of year too, if you can’t wear a glitter lip at Christmas then when can you?
Highlight on Fleek
I can’t talk about the beauty trends of the year and not mention highlighting. Highlighting, like contouring, has of course always been around but this year it seems to have become a real thing. This whole craze started at the end of 2015 when strobing became a thing and snowballed from there. This year has seen your highlight become the feature of your makeup, whether it be metallic, glitter, crazy colours – just as long as it’s there.
It was only a few years ago when dark, bold, almost blocky eyebrows were the height of fashion. Fast forward to 2016 and now it’s all about soft, natural, fluffy eyebrows. I love this sort of brow, it’s much more natural than the brows we’ve been favouring for the past few years and very feminine. The best part though, it’s so easy to achieve just let ’em grow!
So I don’t know if this is strictly a 2016 trend, I think our love affair with unicorns started earlier than that, but the unicorn obsession has definitely found it’s way into our makeup bags this year. Pastel rainbow colours and lots of glitter and sparkle are a lot more common. “Unicorn Hair” is now a thing, where people opt for bright and unnatural hair colours. Also the “unicorn highlighter” was big news this year. I even did a post on unicorn nails recenty!
My favourite hairstyle of 2016 is probably a little young for me, but I love it anyway. It reminds me of the spice girls and being in primary school. Super cute and super easy!
Thanks so much for reading everyone! What have been your favourite beauty trends this year? I can’t wait to see what amazing new beauty tricks that 2017 has in store for us!
