August Favourites

August Favourites

Hello, beauty lovers! I’ve been MIA in the blogosphere yet again, just when I was getting into a more regular blogging rhythm too! I had a small health scare which meant I was spending most of my evenings at the doctors for a week or two and since then I have honestly just been a bit lazy. But excuses aside let’s talk beauty. I have fallen in love with a few new products and rediscovered some not so new products so I thought I’d share them with you in an August favourites post – better late than never right?

If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you’ll know that I’m a big fan of gel nails. I have such a hard time from keeping regular nail polish on my fingers for any longer than a day and so gel is just so much more convenient. However, gel nail polishes are a.) more expensive than regular polishes and b.) more tricky to get your hands on, so for these reasons I don’t have quite as many colours in my gel collection and I get a bit bored.

K squared nail paints

I was recently sent some amazing nail polishes from K squared. They’re handmade in Brooklyn and they have some of the most amazing colours! I was sent some of the super bright shades. Sadly the one I was most excited about was smashed in the post but the other two are stunning too. The green is so cool, I think it’d be great for a music festival or if you’re going on holiday – it will look seriously amazing with a tan.

The red/orange shade is the one I love the most, it’s bright but still appropriate for work so it gets a big thumbs-up from me! These polishes are so long-lasting – in fact, I even struggled to get them off! I would definitely recommend using a base coat with them though as they can stain your nails. You need several coats to get the colour to the right intensity but once you’re there then the colour is so bright, vivid and VERY long-lasting. I can’t recommend them enough. The best part is that they’re super reasonably priced.

Cuticle Oil and Handcream

Still, on the topic of hands – are you sensing a theme here? I have never been a huge hand cream user until recently, I don’t particularly enjoy the feeling of greasy hands and to be totally honest I usually just forget. Now that I’m working in an office though, things have changed. I leave a tube of cream on my desk and it reminds me to use it every time that I wash my hands. It’s so effective that I’ve gone through an entire tube of this Zoella hungry hands in only one month!

I got this tube for Christmas so I’m not sure if you can still get a hold of it, but if you can snap it up. The scent isn’t entirely summer appropriate but it’s certainly getting me excited for Autumn and winter, it smells like gingerbread and is completely delicious. The best thing about it though is how incredibly quickly it is absorbed into the skin. I’m really interested in trying out some other Zoella hand creams now!

You’ll notice the cuticle oil is missing from this picture – that’s because it’s still on my desk, oops!

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lips

Again if you’ve been here a while you’ll know I have this thing with liquid lipsticks – I think they are genius! I love matte lips because I think they make my puney lips look a little less puney. Matte lips also tend to stay on forever, a real bonus if you’re like me and don’t love to reapply 15 times in a day. These Rimmel liquid lipsticks are no exception, they stay on all day but are incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear. They have a great selection of colours too, I’ve swatched some of them below.

Sonic Cleanser

This item was sent to me and I won’t lie, when I opened the package I was a bit concerned that this was something else entirely – if you know what I mean!

Viala Sonic Cleanser

If you can get over the appearance of it though it’s actually a really effective way of cleansing your skin. I’ve had something like this in the past – something similar to the Clarisonic (but not quite as fancy) and although I liked it I wasn’t a huge fan of the toothbrush style bristles because I felt as though they needed to be changed quite frequently. That could have just been me, but I worried that they got held onto dirt and they got quite scratchy after a while.

The Viala cleanser, on the other hand, is super hygienic and easy to clean and there’s no way that it’ll become harsh or abrasive on the skin. I feel like my skin gets a really good clean with this thing. I also like to apply my moisturiser or facial oil with it too, as it gives your skin a good massage and makes your whole skincare routine a bit more of a treat.

Maybelline Concealer

I hadn’t even realised that this was a favourite until I’d finished the whole tube of it – and I very rarely finish a concealer before I get bored and try something different. So you know it’s good! What I love about this is that is high coverage enough to hide the darkest of dark circles but not so heavy that it creases and accentuates wrinkles.

It’s wallet friendly too, especially compared to some of the concealers I’ve used in the past. I will definitely be repurchasing.

The only thing I don’t love about it is the applicator, the sponge gets wet and soggy and holds too much product in my opinion. It’s a problem I can totally over look though, as the product inside is so good. If you haven’t tried this already you should, especially if you struggle with makeup settling in fine lines.

Maybelline Age Rewind

And there you have my beauty favourites for the month of August. Comment below what makeup and beauty products you have been loving this month, I always love to know. Also let me know if you enjoy this kind of post – I’m considering doing my favourites in an instagram story each month rather than a full blog post – what do you guys think?
